Know More Passive DWDM and Active DWDM system

In order to keep up with the rapid growth of data network traffic brought about by the growth of the Internet, service providers have been seeking to improve the fiber capacity and wavelength spectrum efficiency in the network. DWDM works by simultaneously combining and transmitting multiple signals at different wavelengths on the same fiber, this article will focus on know more DWDM Passive Systems and Active DWDM system.

DWDM transport networks can be constructed as passive DWDM and active DWDM. In order to greatly extend the bandwidth of existing fiber system, passive DWDM and active DWDM systems are designed to multiplex different wavelengths to transmit multiple signals over a single fiber.

Passive DWDM Systems

Passive DWDM systems, commonly referred to passive DWDM MUX DEMUX ,which a special feature of the DWDM passive system has no active components. This line only works due to the optical budget of the transceiver used. No optical signal amplifier and dispersion compensator are used. DWDM passive systems have high channel capacity and expansion potential, but the transmission distance is limited to the optical budget of the transceiver used. The wavelength division multiplexing of the DWDM 100Ghz system occurs in a narrow range of 1525 nm to 1565 nm, and the spacing between adjacent channels is only 0.8 nm. When operating through a single fiber, the channel capacity of such a system can reach 20 channels, when working through dual fibers, 40 channels can be achieved.

The main applications of DWDM passive systems are metro networks and high-speed communication lines with high channel capacity. Unlike active backbone networks with amplifiers and dispersion compensators, passive DWDM allows for the scheduling of high speed systems with high channel capacity and high cost savings. The system capability can transmit up to 40 duplex communication channels and support all transport protocols; transport any type of traffic; metro channel layout with high channel capacity. The optical medium should be single/dual fiber with a maximum path length of 70 km, depending on the channel capacity.

Active DWDM system

Active DWDM systems, commonly referred to as transponder-based systems, provide a way to transfer large amounts of data between sites in a data center interconnect. The transponder uses a SAN or IP switch format output, usually in shortwave 850nm or long wave 1310nm format, and is converted by OEO DWDM conversion. In a long-haul DWDM network, several EDFAs are installed in sequence on the line. The number of amplifiers in a section is determined by the type of fiber optic cable, the number of channels, the data rate of each channel, and the allowable OSNR value. Active DWDM solutions are used in the widest range of backbone networks because they ensure built-in regeneration, monitoring, overall network management, configuration and signal demarcation.

Summary

In most cases, DWDM works with powered components such as transponders. Moreover, after multiplexing the signals, they normally require active amplification to have any preferred distance. Without this, you only need a relatively short distance, which is not a good value for the cost of DWDM.
