1. Description

> he highly integrated SG6742 series of PWM controllersprovides several features to enhance the performance offlyback converters.To minimize standby power consumption, a proprietarygreen-mode function provides off-time modulation tolinearly decrease the switching frequency at light-loadconditions. To avoid acoustic-noise problems, the minimumPWM frequency is set above 22KHz. This green-modefunction enables the power supply to meet internationalpower conservation requirements. With the internal high-voltage startup circuitry, the power loss due to bleedingresistors is also eliminated. To further reduce powerconsumption, SG6742 is manufactured using the BiCMOSprocess, which allows an operating current of only 2.7mA.Built-in synchronized slope compensation achieves stablepeak-current-mode control. The proprietary external linecompensation ensures a constant output-power limit over awide AC input voltage range, from 90VACto 264VAC.SG6742 provides many protection functions. In addition tocycle-by-cycle current limiting, the internal open-loopprotection circuit ensures safety should an open-loop oroutput short-circuit failure occur.
