Introduction:
This is a Dual-SCR,1600V,116A Thyristor Module made by IXYS. A thyristor is a four-layer device that has alternating P-type and N-type semiconductors (P-N-P-N). A Thyistor Module is useful in controlling and rectifying current in only one direction.
It is useful as a rectifier because it switches rapidly from a state of conducting current to a state of non-conduction. In addition the Thyristor module acts like a mechanical switch: it is either on or off. When a current/voltage pulse is applied to the gate of the thyristor, it triggers on and starts to conduct. The Thyristor will continue to conduct even when the gate current is completely removed. The Thyristor will turn off once the load current drops below zero.
