Description
Schmitt trigger is a comparator circuit which uses positive feedback to implement hysteresis. It is an active circuit which converts the analog input signal to the digital output (1,0) signal provided that the input signal is above a predefined threshold.
HCF40106 BE is a monolithic integrated circuit. Each IC consists of six Schmitt triggers circuits, with each circuit functions as an inverter with Schmitt trigger action on the input. The trigger switches at different times for positive and negative going signals. The difference between positive and negative going signals is called hysteresis voltage. This IC can operate at medium temperature range.

Working Principle
Schmitt trigger utilizes the hysteresis, which is based on positive feedback. Any active circuit can be made to act as Schmitt trigger by applying positive feedback so that the gain of the circuit is greater than one. It is called trigger because the output of the circuit triggers after the input has significantly changed it value. When the input is above a threshold value the trigger will change its value to HIGH, if the input to the trigger is below a certain threshold output will go LOW. During the interval when the input is between HIGH and LOW thresholds, the trigger will be no change on the output.

Astable Multivibrator
Astable multivibrator is also called free running multivibrator is the one which has no stable state. Output keep bouncing between a high and low state. Time period of each state is determined by the RC network.
Monostabel Multivibrator
