Introduction
DAC cables stand for Direct Attach Cables,which are a form of shielded high speed cable with fixed length shielded copper coaxial cables and pluggable transceivers on either end. Normally they can be used to interconnection of switches , routers ,storage devices and servers.
Advantage
1. High performance---It is suitable for short-distance cabling of network solution, which has a scientific layout design to save space with more reasonable length.
2. Low cost--- The price of direct attach copper cables is much lower than that of optical transceivers, there are no active Tx /Rx components, just Capacitors, Resistors, EEPROM, Cable Therefore, the use of high-speed DAC cables can greatly reduce the connection cost of network solution.
3. Low power --- DAC cables with low power consumption. They do not require a power supply, which means they are almost zero,but generally the power consumption of the active optical cable is around 440 mW.
4. energy-saving and environmentally-friendly--- DAC cables save energy and protect the environment due to the internal material of a copper core. Which has a good natural heat dissipation effect .
One of disadvantage is limited distance ,which optical transceiver should be used with cables together , it can not be used separately to network soultion .
